Anniversary Weekend in New York

Trip to New York City - December 8 - 10, 2006

Anne and I went to New York City for the weekend to see the Broadway play "Spamalot" and do so some Christmas shopping on 5th Avenue.

On Friday, a few hours before our flight, I received an email from Northwest Airlines informing me that our flight was cancelled due to bad weather, but they were going to book us through Minneapolis then to New York.  I called them and managed to get us on a slightly later flight directly to Newark.  We were able to get there with enough time Friday night to walk around the city near midtown and the theater district.

We had a wonderful time in the city.  We stayed at a hotel near Broadway.  On Friday night, we saw the Christmas tree and the other Christmas decorations at Rockefeller Plaza.  We also saw the skating rink and several 'Santas' playing the saxophone.

We didn't buy much on Saturday, but enjoyed the walking, window shopping, strolling through Central Park and people watching.  On Saturday night, we took a bicycle "rickshaw" since traffic was jammed and we had to make our dinner reservation.  When we arrived at "Lattanzi's" a very nice Italian restaurant near the Shubert Theater, we found that the restaurant was exceptionally busy and had we waited, we would have missed the show.  So we walked towards the theater hoping to find a restaurant which could seat us in time, when I decided to go into "Sardi's" the famous Broadway restaurant to see if they had any open tables.  Sure enough, there were able to accommodate us on time.

We were able to have our anniversary dinner at Sardi's and see the show on time.  "Spamalot" was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.  It was at least as funny, though hard to compare to, "The Producers".

On Sunday, we slept in late and a had a nice breakfast.  We took a cab to LaGuardia and made it home on time.

Thanks to Barb (Anne's mom) for watching the kids while we were gone.
