What a great way to end a great season!
The Lasers beat a very strong Farmington team 5-3 on a day that started out cold and windy and ended up sunny at the end. Farmington took an early 1-0 lead and blocked many of our early attacks with a tough defense. We started to gain momentum with great passing from the midfield and defense to the offense. Our midfielders kept pounding on the Farmington net until finally we scored. The game was very close with a 2-2 tie at half time. Some last minute roster changes made all the difference. We kept our speed on the offense and defense, while our midfield continued to set up the offense with great scoring opportunities. We finished the game holding on to our 2 goal lead and ended a great season at six wins, one loss and one tie. After the game we headed to coach Ted and Anne's house for our after season party.
Kevin was the key to our offensive attack today. With several shots on goal, including two goals, he dominated our possession and attacks on Farmington. Robert was outstanding in goal in the first half, stopping some very impressive shots. He was not afraid to get dirty either, making some amazing saves and coming up totally soaked. In the second half at midfield and defense, Robert was great with several booming kicks, great passes, steals and an assist. Mark really showed his prowess on midfield in the first half, with amazing ball handling, passes and steals. He also provided the assist for our first goal with an incredible kick in front of the goal. In the second half, Mark withstood several strong kicks and made some amazing saves as goal keeper. Dan played a huge part in saving the game, by stealing the ball from Farmington and kicking it deep to our offense. Nick was excellent today with great passing and stealing at midfield. He came within six inches of scoring with a great shot on the goal. Paul also came very close to scoring with several shots on goal. He was great in protecting our midfield and clearing the ball to our offense. Kristopher was great in midfield and offense with a goal and an assist. He controlled the ball every time he had possession. He made several great centering passes and continued to keep the Farmington defense at bay. Austin provided impressive ball control and defensive power to our midfield. He was a huge contributor to our win with his stopping of the Farmington attacks again and again. Chris was a strong contributor to our defense. He made several goal saving stops and clears. James was amazing today on defense with some breathtaking headers, steals and zone clearing passes to our offense. In the second half, James was super aggressive in his steals and passes. He had a devastating goal putting us ahead 4-3. Michael's speed on defense made a huge difference to our win. He would sweep in out of nowhere, clear the ball and blast it again on the goal or in front of the offense. Kyle was great today covering the middle and fighting for possession and shooting on the goal. Craig once again was a huge contributor on defense with great stops and steals. At one point in the second half Craig took down an offensive player nearly twice his size and stole the ball and cleared it to our offense. Brian was great in protecting our goal and getting the ball to the midfield. He was a true leader today and a fantastic defender.
